Sirajeddin Abdullah is a 52-year-old Iraqi Army colonel who works in the defense ministry. He was kidnapped while heading towards Kirkuk, on a road between that city and Tuz.

Colonel Abdullah is a Turkmen from Kirkuk. His ethnically-mixed hometown has seen frequent sectarian violence in the recent years.
