Adel Obeid-Allah is a tobacco dealer from Jordan. A US$250,000 ransom was demanded for his release before he managed to escape. According to the Jordanian government spokesperson, no ransom was paid despite reports to contrary. In the same statement, the spokesperson stated that the kidnapping was planned by Mr. Obeid-Allah's Iraqi representative for purely financial reasons.
