Keith Matthew Maupin
Seized: 2004-04-09 held for 587 days

Keith Matthew Maupin is a sergeant with the U.S. Army Reserve and a student at University of Cincinnati Clermont College. He is the son of Matt and Carolyn, and brother of Micah. Sgt. Maupin was 3 months short of his 21st birthday at the time of his capture, and a private first class. He has been promoted twice in absentia since.

Sgt. Maupin was seized along with truck driver Thomas Hamill following a convoy ambush. Sgt. Maupin and Mr. Hamill were subsequently shown in separate videos. Truck driver Timothy Bell remains unaccounted for. The body of the other missing driver, Bill Bradley, was recovered after 9 months.

A video that may or may not show SFC Maupin's execution was released on June 28, 2004. The U.S. military has judged the dark, grainy footage, which shows a kneeling man falling into a shallow grave after apparently being shot in the head, inconclusive. The video does not show the man's face or feature his voice.

On April 6, 2005, the U.S. Army convened a panel to review Sgt. Maupin's status. He may be reclassified from 'Captured' to 'Deceased' as a result of this review, a move his family opposes.
